Update on 45th Reunion

Thanks to those of you for completing the survey about your preferences for the 45th reunion.

We received responses from 31 of the 268 registered participants out of a class of approximately 400.

Of those 31, a Saturday night buffet with a cash bar was the preferred choice with 19 votes.

That is not enough to justify the amount of volunteer effort to put a formal event together, leaving aside deposits for the venue and other costs involved.

We have decided to forgo the 45th reunion and count on more of our classmates to participate in our 50th reunion in 2029.

If classmates would like to participate in some informal get together (and most people selected September or October), please send email and we will post your ideas.

See you all in 2029 for the big 5-0!

Thanks!

In Memory of Mark Baker

It is with profound sadness that we report on the passing of our classmate and friend Mark Baker.

A copy of the obituary from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is linked.

May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends.

CAHS People are Everywhere!

This comes from Kerrie (Thomas) Morse, who is living her best life at The Villages, FL.  She recently ran into Assistant Principal Leonard Nowicki and his wife Jill at the Three Rivers Club meeting held there.  He was so excited to see someone from Churchill and they had a great visit.  For those who may not remember, Jill Nowicki was a Home Economics teacher at Churchill until she retired in 1974 to raise their children.  They all reminisced about going to school in Churchill and what a great school it was.

Kerrie also reported that she was seated with another Churchill graduate, Jeff Clapp (1971), whose sister Jean Clapp was in the class of 1977.

And, as so often is the case, Kerrie and Jeff were laughing since they didn't think they could bring themselves to call him Len after years of being Mr. Nowicki!

In Memory of Robert W. Bowman

Congratulations Larry Berger!

Finally, some really great news for all of us to enjoy!

Our very own Larry Berger has been recognized by AARP for his lifetime commitment to "The Saturday Light Brigade".

A copy of the announcement of Larry as an AARP Purpose Prize Fellow can be found here.

A copy of an article from the 10-18-21 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette can be found here.

Congratulations to Larry on this prestigious award and for making all of us Charger Proud!

In Memory of David "DJ" Johnson

It is with profound sadness that we report on the passing of our classmate David "DJ" Johnson.

A copy of the funeral notice from the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO is linked.

May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends.

Two Reminders

In addition to our own class website, there is an All Churchill Class website (www.cahsmemories.com) that you can join.  This website contains audio, video, and photos from CAHS Athletics, Band & Choir Albums, Dramas & Musicals, Student Organizations, and other links of interest.

Although we have 269 of our classmates who have joined this website, we still have 123 who have not joined!  Click on the "MIssing Classmates" link and if you know someone on the list, let them know or send an email to official@cahs1979.com with their name, email address, or phone number so we can reach out to them. Our goal would be to go from 68.4% of our class to at least 80% before the next reunion!

See you in 5 (or 10) Years!
